“Versatile but expensive, the German-made MP7 SMG is the perfect choice for high-impact close-range combat.”
―Counter-Strike description.
General Information[]
The Heckler & Koch MP7 is a personal defense weapon chambered for the HK 4.6×30mm armor-piercing cartridge designed by German defence manufacturer Heckler & Koch. It was designed together with the new cartridge to meet NATO requirements published in 1989, which called for an SMG-type weapon that had a greater capacity to defeat Kevlar body armour than pre-existing submachine guns using conventional pistol cartridges such as .45 ACP and 9×19mm Parabellum.
The MP7 went into production in 2001, and is a direct rival to the FN P90, also developed in response to NATO's requirement by Belgian company FN Herstal. The weapon has been revised since its introduction and the latest production variants are the MP7A1 and MP7A2.
The proliferation of cheap yet effective soft body armor has begun to make guns that fire pistol ammunition (such as Heckler & Koch's earlier MP5 submachine gun and USP pistol) ineffective. In response to this trend, Heckler & Koch designed the MP7 (along with the cancelled UCP pistol, which uses the same ammunition) to penetrate soft body armor while being small enough to be used in place of either a pistol or a submachine gun.
In-game Information[]
The MP7 is a close-quarters oriented SMG, with a fairly high rate of fire and high spread to boot. It uses a large 40-round magazine, making it a very ammo-efficient weapon despite its fast rate of fire.
The damage is remarkably decent in CQC, dealing up to 46 damage to the head at closer ranges and trailing down to 12 damage to the body at maximum range.
Pros & Cons[]
Pros:
- High damage at close quarters.
- Fast rate of fire.
- Fairly fast reload.
- Fairly low spread.
- Large magazine size of 40.
Cons:
- Very low minimum body damage.
Trivia[]
- The MP7, or Maschinenpistole 7, was developed in response to NATO requirements for a new PDW firearm. PDWs are a hybrid between the Carbine and the SMG, allowing for greater armor penetration compared to SMGs, and a form factor small enough to easily be carried.
- The MP7 is the signature weapon of Broadcaster.
- The MP7 firing sound is same as the old MP7 from CS:GO.
- The mp7 in game has relatively high recoil contrary the mp7 in real life, in fact, low recoil is one of the selling points of the mp7.
